An upset was recorded earlier today at the Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium in Kampla as the home side Vipers Sports Club stunned Nigeria’s champion Enyimba of Aba winning by a goal to nil to gain the advantage going into the second leg of the CAF champions league preliminary round return leg in Port Harcourt in a forthnight.
After a promising first half exhibited by the reigning Nigerian champions, Vipers rallied efforts to make an impact in the second stanza of the game and their persistence paid off in the second half with about a quarter of an hour left to be played, Erisa Ssekisambu scored the only goal of the game to send the fans into wild celebrations.
Enyimba’s first half pressure didn’t see the Nigerians convert any of the chances created and their not so convincing display in the second half saw them concede. The Elephants pushed for an equalizer and almost got a goal late on but the Vipers’ defense managed to clear a goal melee.
