Holders Chelsea have been dumped out of the League Cup loosing 5-4 on penalties to Mark Hughes Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium.
Jon Walters’ 52nd minute sublime strike was effectively cancelled out by French Striker Loic Remy in the 90th minute to force the game into extra time.
While Stoke City converted all their spot kicks, Eden Hazard failed to convert Chelsea’s last kick as Stoke’s Jack Butland moved swiftly to save the Belgian’s effort and send th Potters to the Quarter Finals and further compound Chelsea’s woes.
Mourinho expressed satisfaction with the Blues performance despite the loss.
“I am happy with our performance. I can take a day off on Wednesday with no problems. I think we played well. We played some attacking football and could have been three or four up at half-time. The team did everything after we fell a goal behind. It was no more than deserved when we equalised,” he added.
“We go out with sadness, but also with a positive feeling. It’s more difficult when you play bad and lose than play well and lose. The players must be frustrated because they’re not getting what they deserve.
“A few months ago I won a few matches and I was champion. People were saying there are things more important than results, yet now, people say results are the most important thing. It’s a contradiction.”
It was far from a keen contest between Arsenal and Sheffield Wednesday as the later comprehensively blew the Gunners away with a 3-0 victory, Arsene Wenger not only lost the game but also had Alex Oxlade Chamberlain and Theo Walcott stretched off due to injury.
